How this works
Formula: Same Rh factor for both parents = girl; different Rh factors = boy.
- This folk method compares the two parents' Rh factors.
- If both are positive or both are negative, it guesses a girl. If they differ, it guesses a boy.
- Rh factor does matter in pregnancy for a real reason: if the mother is Rh negative and the baby is Rh positive, her care team may offer a treatment to protect future pregnancies.
- This is a folk method shared for fun. It is not accurate and cannot tell you your baby's sex. Only medical tests, such as an ultrasound or a blood test, can do that.

Can Rh factor predict a baby's sex?
No. Rh factor and a baby's sex are not linked.

It is part of your blood type, for example A positive or O negative. It is usually checked at an early pregnancy visit.
