How this works
Formula: Look up the chart cell for the mother's lunar age at conception and the lunar month of conception.
- Lunar age: you are 1 at birth and gain a year at each Chinese New Year, so it is lunar year of conception − lunar year of birth + 1.
- Lunar month: Belly Weekly counts the new moons since Chinese New Year, computed with standard astronomy formulas. Leap months are not counted separately, so a few dates may land one month off from a printed lunar calendar.
- The chart covers lunar ages 18 to 45. Versions of the chart differ between sources; this is one widely shared version.
- This is a folk method shared for fun. It is not accurate and cannot tell you your baby's sex. Only medical tests, such as an ultrasound or a blood test, can do that.

No. There is no scientific basis for it. Treat it like a fun game, not a prediction.

A traditional way of counting age where a baby is 1 at birth and everyone gains a year at Chinese New Year, not on their birthday.
How can I really find out my baby's sex?
Ask your doctor or midwife. An ultrasound or a prenatal blood test can show it.
